Because We Insist On Natural And Bio-Based Yarns For Our Fabrics.

Mothers en Vogue® works exclusively with natural fibres and, where possible, environmentally friendly alternatives that allow us to reduce our impact on the environment. Beyond good design, it is imperative MEV’s maternity and nursing clothing delivers equally on comfort. It must be made of fabrics woven from natural or bio yarns, and even better if ecologically derived. The rationale behind such demands is simple - nursing mothers and babies benefit most from wearing natural textiles as these are most comfortable and breathe-able and help reduce incidences of skin sensitivities or reactions. We do not use synthetic or man-made fabrics.

CottonCotton – natural fibre grown around the seeds of cotton plants, is spun into yarn to make soft yet breathable fabric. We feature cotton strongly in our range, in particular our nursing wear and baby onesie collection designed for daily use, due to its softness, breathability and excellent absorbing capabilities.

ModalModal – is a more fined form of rayon and is recognised as a bio-based textile because it's source of fibre is reconstituted wood pulp (predominantly from beech trees). Wood pulp is first processed into fibre and then spun into yarn which is then used to weave into fabric. This fabric combines the familiar benefits of natural fibre and the softness of silk. It drapes beautifully, offers a very subtle sheen and is our fabric of choice when designing a garment that calls for fluidity and drape, while maintaining a familiar cotton feel.

LinenLinen – is a natural textile made from the fibres of the flax plant. It is known to be the world's strongest plant fibre. Linen may be stiff initially but becomes soft and supple through handling (i.e. wear). While there are manufacturing processes to chemically "soften" linen fabric before we put them on our shelves but we rather not. We want to minimise further processing that unnecessarily adds to the burden on our environment. Over some wear, our moms and moms-to-be will enjoy the softness and coolness that linen offers. We use linen and linen blends in designs that complement the rumpled look ... afterall that is part of linen's charm.

Silk

Silk – silk fibres are obtained from the natural cocoons of moth caterpillars. Silk’s absorbency makes it comfortable to wear in warm weather and while active. Its low conductivity keeps warm air close to the skin during cold weather. A traditionally luxurious fabric, we occasionally incorporate silk in formal wear or in our more avant-garde designs.

Organic Cotton

Organic Cotton – grown without the use of harmful pesticides and chemicals that can contaminate the environment, this earth-friendly fabric not only feels good, it feels right too. Certified organic cotton yarns are used in the manufacture of MEV clothing.

Bamboo Rayon – made from the pulp of bamboo grass, is earth’s fastest growing plant, and is also a sustainable source of fibre. Its environmental benefits arise largely out of its ability to grow and spread quickly without the use of fertilizers and caustic pesticides that can contaminate and damage the environment. Bamboo rayon is a soft, breathable, super absorbent and lustrous fabric that is lightweight and has a cooling effect on the skin.
