Maternity Style

Being fashionable or stylish during pregnancy is about 50% attitude and 50% the actual clothes you wear! If you are walking around feeling frumpy and uncomfortable, then nothing is going to look good on you! And vice versa, if your dressing doesn’t make you feel good, then you’re not going to reflect that attitude!

When it comes to boosting your confidence with clothing during pregnancy, here are some Mothers En Vogue tips:

Dare to be sexy!

And we do not mean baring as much as you can. Think sleek silhouettes and clean lines with your maternity clothes. Maternity clothing that is slim cut with some shape will compliment your rounded figure far better than loose fitting, full cut tops and dresses. If you assume you can more easily hide your size with “bigger” clothes, doing so will actually have the opposite effect. Remember, the larger the tent, the bigger the circus.

Maternity essentials to looking sexy

A selection of stretch maternity singlets or tops.
A couple of slim-fitting maternity capris or pants
One bootleg cut maternity jeans
A black dress in stretck knit fabrication.

Create only one or two focus in your dressing

Mix and match is good yet it is also important to know what is the visual focus in your overall dressing – that is when your style can be delivered distinctly.

If you choose a striking printed top for instance, allow that top to be the visual focus. Avoid pairing it with similarly printed bottoms or bold accessories that will
1) add more “noise” or bulk to your frame, and
2) that will compete with the top for attention;
The key is to streamline the visual perspective to one (or two) distinctive components of your dressing.

Wearing solids are great “canvasses” for adding accessories. You can really punch up an outfit with a colorful scarf, chunky necklace, funky shoes or hip handbag – anything that reflects your personal style, really.

Pamper yourself

You are feeling bigger and clumsier each day, the last thing you want to do is neglect your personal appearance. Remember to maintain your haircuts, continue your manicures / pedicures, and enjoy facials or massages or any form of therapy (even shopping therapy counts!) as you ordinarily will. Most importantly, continue being active - a sense of well-being comes from within!

No-No Tip: Don't buy plus sized clothes or any clothes that are more than 1-2 sizes larger than your regular size. Most women gain most of their weight in their bellies, not necessarily all over. You will find that while the plus-sized tops fit over your large belly, they will also be much too big around the neck and arms, making you look (and FEEL) frumpy!
